Canon aims for 20 percent of digital video camera market
Article Abstract:
Canon Inc is aiming for a 20% share of the global market for digital video cameras by FY2002. It now has a 15% share in Europe and the Americas after entering the video camera market in 1997. About 80% of Canon's overall sales of video cameras come from both regions. Among its latest products is the IXY DV model, which Canon hopes would capture 10% of the digital video camera market in Japan. Another popular model from Canon is the Ultura which sells below $1,000.

Megapixel models take reins in sales race for digital still cameras

The Japanese market for digital still cameras is shifting attention from their functionas personal computer peripherals to more complex megapixel models that approximate the quality of regular film-based pictures. The market has also become more competitive as traditional camera manufacturers are being challenged by appliance manufacturers such as Casio Computer Co, Sony Corp and Toshiba Corp.
