DC-DC converters
Article Abstract:
Murata Manufacturing Co Ltd introduces its MPD1M high-frequency DC-DC converter for LCD panels, which is among the smallest of its kind. After mounting, the converter is 1.1 mm in height with the use of Murata's drop- in processing method and a very low profile transformer with a height of 1.4 mm. It also uses the firm's blocking converter system, which employs a blocking oscillator that comprises transistors and a transformer. Samples cost $18.

Disc market continues to expand as Internet pushes storage needs
Article Abstract:
Demand is steadily increasing for large capacity removable discs and related drives. Statistics on data media reveals that the Japanese market for recordable CDs (CD-Rs) nearly doubled in 2000, rising to 210 million units. The rapid growth of CD-Rs stems from their interchangeability with CDs and CD-ROMs. Also, the market for rewritable CDs is growing even faster. Another important development is the emerging demand for DVD recording media.
