DVD software faces solid growth by 2003

Matsushita Electric Industrial Company Ltd of Japan is predicting that the demand for DVD software will reach 1.9 billion discs by 2003. The company, one of the original founders of the DVD Forum and a manufacturer of a number of DVD products, also expects the demand for DVD-RAMs to amount to 50 million discs in the same year. Matsushita, which has reaffirmed its commitment to the DVD format, is confident that DVD software will be the main media for data, video and audio in the future.

Multimedia Co, a unit of Sanyo Electric Company Ltd, intends to post 600 billion yen in sales in FY2000. The company is in charge of such products as recording media, video media, information systems, medical electronics and personal communications for parent Sanyo.
