Demand for LCDs increases as production costs fall
Article Abstract:
LCDs have failed to penetrate the market as rapidly as predicted because of difficulties with manufacturing processes that resulted in poor yields and high costs. However, many of those problems have been addressed, reducing costs to allow LCDs use in large screen as well in other applications. It is predicted that demand for products featuring large LCDs will increase as well as demand for mobile equipment equipped with LCDs. These include digital cameras, mobile telephones, car navigation devices, personal digital assistants and portable game machines.

Trend towards color LCDs pushes Sharp's supply capabilities
Article Abstract:
Sharp Corp plans to outsource some of the production of its liquid crystal displays (LCDs) to third-party foundries. The company has encountered problems supplying demand for LCDs due to shortage of parts and its inability to accurately determine demand. Sharp is also looking for ways to reduce costs of parts, which would lead to cheaper LCD units. It also plans to incorporate LCD panels on its TV products by 2005.
