Devices that support e-commerce, communications push PDA market
Article Abstract:
The market for personal digital assistants (PDA) is expected to grow rapidly as the devices are increasingly used as tools for electronic commerce. According to Nomura Research Institute Ltd, the PDA market will increase from 11.6 million units in 2001 to 19 million units in 2005. PDAs manufacturers include Casio Computer Co, Fujitsu Ltd, Handspring Inc, Hewlett-Packard Co, IBM Corp, NEC Corp, Sharp Corp and Sony Corp. Operating systems for PDAs include Palm Inc's PalmOS, Symbian's EPOC and Microsoft Corp's Windows CE.

As IMT-2000 service begins in Japan, world will take notice of technology
Article Abstract:
International Mobile Telecommunications 2000 (IMT-2000) service will initially be offered by NTT DoCoMo Inc in Tokyo, Japan, in May 2001. Services will later expand to Osaka and Nagoya in Dec 2001, and then to the rest of the country beginning in Apr 2002. After the start of IMT-2000 service in Japan, the technology is expected to be offered to the rest of the world, particularly in Europe and Asia. IMT-2000 has been standardized by the International Telecommunications Union.

DVD manufacturers are spending time and money to come up with more sophisticated DVDs such as those that combine functions to handle music, computer and video data. Some makers have developed DVD players that feature Dolby ProLogic Surround and Dolby Digital Surround systems to handle a variety of sound fields.
