The proliferation of digital audio-video equipment will contribute immensely to the impending realization of the digital home network environment. The technology, which will help in achieving network integration for the entire home, will also play a crucial role in the future of the home electronic and electric appliances industry. The home network concept is aimed at deriving an efficient means of utilizing media to provide services to societies where the average age is increasing.

Spreading digital formats begin redefining A/V boundaries
Article Abstract:
Digital audio and video formats, which became available only in the mid- 1980s, will continue to expand their reach in the 21st century. The start of terrestrial digital broadcast in Japan is expected to create an even greater momentum for digital formats that are capable of simplifying data processing and streamlining the size and the speed odf recording media. Even the film industry, which has thrived on the analog format, is beginning to realize the virtue of digital technology.

Industry promotes digital network for homes
Article Abstract:
Eight manufacturers in the consumer electronics indusry are in the process of establishing the Home Audio Video Interoperability (HAVi) Organization. The HAVi 1.0 final specifications are aimed at permitting the interoperability of varying brands of digital home entertainment products. Members of the group include Hitachi Ltd, Grundig AG, Matsushita Electric Industrial Company Ltd, Sharp Corp, Royal Philips Electronics, Sony Corp, Toshiba Corp and Thomson Multimedia.
