Hitachi Maxell's optical line spans recording media field

Hitachi Maxell Ltd of Japan is a supplier of magnetic and optical products that include recordable CDs, recordable DVDs, rewritable CDs, DVD-RAMs, MiniDiscs and magneto-optical (MO) discs. The firm, which is one of the leading Japanese players in the 3.5-in MO disc market, plans to release a 5.25-in disc with a double-sided capacity of 5.2GB. In response to the expanding MD market, Hitachi Maxell increased its production capacity to 2.5 million units per month at the end of 1997 from 1.5 million units in Nov 1997.

Hitachi Maxell Ltd supplies high quality products to the Japanese market. The company is developing optical recording media and currently leads the industry in the DVD-RAM disc arena. Its optical media include Magneto Optical Disc, Mini Disc, Compact Disc Recordable and CD Rewritable. Its DVD products include DVD Recordable, Rewritable and Random Access Memory. The company predicts that the total market for Magneto Optical discs will increase 10 to 20% in 2001.

Fujifilm uses proprietary technology for optical media
Article Abstract:
Fuji Photo Film Company Ltd has developed its new high-density recording film tape, the Ziz Disk, from the company's advanced super thin layer and high output metal media technology. The Ziz Disc is one of Fujifilm's main products in its recording media line. Fujifilm has confidence in its pigment technology and has used pigment in its recording method for its CD disc family. The company will incorporate pigment into its DVD development also.
