IC values to appreciate with demand for advanced models
Article Abstract:
Semiconductor manufacturers expect production of semiconductor chips to rise by 8% to 3.45 trillion yen in 1999. This is an improvement to the 10% decline to 3.19 trillion yen that the industry suffered in 1998, due to lower DRAM prices and sluggish demand from Asia. Manufacturers expect depressed market conditions to continue in 1999, resulting in suppressed demand for semiconductors used in consumer electronics, except for digital products such as MiniDisc players.

November figures show monthly gains, yearly drops
Article Abstract:
The Semiconductor Industry Assn (SIA) reported that the global sales for semiconductors amounted to only $11.38 billion in Nov 1998, 6% lower than sales figures for Nov 1997. However, sales were higher by 4.9% compared to that for Oct 1998. The SIA added that sales grew by 7% to $2.296 billion in Japan and 4.84% to $2.635 billion in the Asia-Pacific region. Europe registered the largest month-to-month gain of 7.3% amounting to $2.768 billion.

Global demand for devices to hit $338.8 billion in 2006
Article Abstract:
The Electronics Industries Assn of Japan predicts that global demand for semiconductor devices will reach $338.8 billion in 2006, up by 1.9% to 2000's expected amount of $179.5 billion. The increase will be influenced by expanding production and the emergence of digital equipment. Bulk of the demand for semiconductors will come from manufacturers of personal computers and communications equipments, especially portable phones.
