Incoming developments smooth path for next-century traffic
Article Abstract:
The Japanese government's drive towards the implmentation of artificially intelligent transport systems (ITS), which is intended to ease traffic problems, is expected to boost several businesses, particulary the car navigation systems and communications sectors. The car navigation systems industry has already responded to the ITS initiative by developing new display devices. Other measures being planned include the installation of satellite and terrestrial stations that would link the ITS with vehicles.

Quest for transportation safety accelerates drive toward ITS
Article Abstract:
The motor vehicle navigation equipment industry in Japan has responded to the government's efforts to establish artificially intelligent transport systems (ITS) as a way to solve traffic problems in the country by upgrading their products. Manufacturers have added route and voice guidance functions to car navigation systems to make them compatible with the Vehicle Information and Communications System, a forerunner of ITS.
