Restructuring gives Rohm room to accelerate IC sales globally

Semiconductor manufacturer Rohm Co Ltd of Kyoto, Japan, has announced its strategy to further boost its overseas operations in view of a strong demand for small, thin and functional integrated circuits used in mobile phones. The company also said that it accelerate its marketing efforts in the US and Europe to boosts the sales of its ICs and LSIs, which account for 35% of total sales. Overseas sales accounted for 173.139 billion yen or 52.7% of its total consolidated sales of 328.613 billion in 1998.

The Japanese electronic components industry sees 1999 as a crucial year for preparing business structures in anticipation of growth. Customers continuously demand shorter delivery times and cheaper prices while manufacturers strive to stay abreast of the latest technology. Japan's output of electronic materials remains strong
Article Abstract:
Production of electronics materials in Japan remains strong in early 2000. From Jan to Apr 2000, production increased by 11% compared with the same period in 1999, totalling 144.87 billion yen. This surpasses estimates for the year. Electronics materials with the strongest demand include semiconductor ceramic materials, metal materials and piezoelectric semiconductor.
