Japan's current account surplus climbs in November
Article Abstract:
Japan's present account surplus in Nov 2000 increased 22.1% to Y972.2 billion, compared with the surplus in the same period a year ago, Japan's Finance Ministry reported. The surplus reflects transactions in goods and services. This increase was caused by a drop in the services deficit and a rise in the portfolio investment surplus. Likewise, the country's income surplus increased Y148.6 billion to Y617.2 billion. The services deficit fell to Y341.5 billion, a decline of Y62.7 billion from Nov 1999.

After spreading into business fields, MCA hits snags
Article Abstract:
The popularity of multiple-channel access (MCA) technology in Japan has waned with the emergence of new telecommunications media and the saturation of existing markets. The number of subscriber stations using MCA has declined from 880,287 in 1995, to 852,662 in 1996, and 844,345 stations at the end of 1997. Sales of radio terminals have also plummeted to 50,000 to 70,000 terminals. This is less than half the volume of sales when MCA was at its peak.
