Murata Manufacturing, drawing record profits, plans big investments

Murata Manufacturing Company Ltd predicts sales of 588 billion yen in FY2000, up 28.1% from FY1999. It expects a pretax net profit of 184 billion yen, up 70.3%, and a net profit of 110 billion yen, up 78.5% from 1999. The strong results will come on the heels of record figures. It posted sales of 459.1 billion yen in FY1999, up 25.1% from FY1999. To raise its consolidated production capacity 25 to 30% in FY2000, the company is investing 86 billion yen on equipment for its factories in Japan and 4 billion yen to upgrade factories outside Japan.

Murata goes squeaky-clean with recycling projects, waste reduction
Article Abstract:
Murata Manufacturing has accelerated efforts to reduce waste and recycle materials. The company is dismantling 21 waste incinerators located at its 19 subsidiaries in Japan. It also has established voluntary standards for chemicals that work inside products and those used in the production process. The use of lead-free solders and the development of lead-free electrodes for capacitors are also being studied by the company. Murata also intends all of its production facilities around the world to obtain ISO14001 certification by Dec 1999.
