Parts makers welcome growing market for mobile products

Manufacturers of electronic components are expanding their businesses to cope with strong demand, particularly from makers of cellular phones and personal digital assistants. They are also developing new components that are thinner, more lightweight with multiple function features and can operate at higher frequencies. Component makers are also searching for ways to reduce delivery times and develop more flexible production systems.

Siemens spins off components business
Article Abstract:
Siemens AG has spun off its Electronic Components Group. The business unit has 47,000 employees and and generates DM 11 billion in annual sales. The spin off is part of a larger restructuring plan, which includes the merger of the computer business group's information division with the communication equipment group's communication service division to form the Information and Communications Group.
