Seventy-Year Itch? No Way, Says Long Island's Richard: Keeping It All in the Family
Article Abstract:
Alfred J. Richard, at seventy, is still chairman of the P.C. Richard and Son's twelve consumer electronics stores. The company has been seeing sales growing at an annual rate of twenty percent over the last six years. Brown goods now account for thirty-five percent of sales. Knowing when to key on emerging product categories before they peak is central to Richard's merchandising strategy. The only consumer electronics products not carried by the store are video games and computers.

Videotape in Second Half: Strong Unit Sales, Forget Price Recovery
Article Abstract:
Suppliers of videocassette tape are predicting record breaking sales for the second half of 1984. Prices have not stabilized as predicted and are continuing to drop. The normally slow summer will be helped by the Summer Olympics. Booming VCR sales will also stimulate blank tape sales. Ninety million unit sales are projected for the industry. The market will continue to be divided between high and low end products.
