Sharp targets overseas markets with latest MD audio products
Article Abstract:
Sharp Corp of Japan plans to capitalize on the growing interest in MiniDisc (MD) audio equipment outside Japan in 1999 by developing products that are designed to meet specifications of overseas markets. The company currently manufactures three types of MD equipment. These are component systems, deck players and portable players. Sharp, which holds 40% of the MD audio equipment market outside Japan, predicts 1999 demand in Europe to reach 1.25 million units and in the US to 500,000 units.

Toshiba sets sights on mobile, network fields in mid-range plan

Japanese consumer electronics manufacturer Toshiba Corp has announced that the company will focus on fast-growing areas of information technology for the next three fiscal years, ending Mar 2003. Part of its mid-range plan is emphasis on the manufacture of information technology products such as portable computers, cellular phones, mobile audio-video equipment, semiconductors and liquid crystal displays.
