Solid prospects await device-making equipment in '99
Article Abstract:
Shipments of semiconductor production equipment in 1998 fell short of industry expectations, as plans for investments and facility expansions were cancelled, according to Semiconductor Equipment and Materials International (SEMI). However, shipments may grow by 6.7% to $23.375 billion in 1999, assuming there is a corresponding rise in demand for ICs. Moreover, SEMI expects better market prospects from 2002 onwards, as semiconductor manufacturers make the shift to 300mm wafers.
