Sales of semiconductor-making equipment surge onward

Statistics from both the Semiconductor Equipment Assn of Japan and the Semiconductor Equipment and Material Institute showed robust global sales of semiconductor production equipment in 1999. From Apr 1999 to Jan 2000, worldwide sales of wafer-processing equipment soared by 228%. During the same period, sales of semiconductor assembly equipment increased by 160.2%. Sales for inspection equipment and wafer-manufacturing equipment surged 158% and 142.8%, respectively.

Global sales flourish for device production equipment
Article Abstract:
Worldwide sales of semiconductor production equipment in FY 1999 increased 158.9% to $30.616 billion. Regional statistics show sales at $1.1 billion in North America, $1.057 billion in Japan, $855 billion in Taiwan, $584 million in Europe, $446 million in Korea and $474 million for other countries that include Singapore and Malaysia. By category, assembly equipment has exhibited the highest growth, soaring 175.7% to $2.525 billion.

Statistics from the Semiconductor Equipment Assn of Japan and the International Semiconductor Manufacturing Equipment Assn show that global sales of semiconductor production equipment has significantly increased in Apr 2000. Sales reached $3.81 billion, up by 215% from sales in Apr 1999. Analysts predict that FY2000 sales will climb 25% from 1999's shipments of $30.615 billion.
