Sony fields full DVD lineup catering to regional markets
Article Abstract:
Japan-based Sony Corp expects the worldwide market for digital video disc (DVD) players to reach 7.55 milion units in FY 1999, or more than triple the level achieved in FY 1998. It attributes this sharp increase in demand to the introduction of video software by US film companies and declining product prices. Market growth for DVD players is also expected in Europe and China. As a result, the company has expanded its lineup to include basic models, high-end and middle-class products as well as portable models.
