Two big names team up to tackle digital A/V, computer technologies

Microsoft Corp is collaborating with Matsushita Electric Industrial Corp to jointly develop digital TV techniques. The cooperation is aimed at developing products that support the reception and display of digital TV broadcast signals, as well as associated interactive programs, and also covers the development of advanced set-top boxes for both public networks and retail customers. The two firms will also formulate a corporate licensing policy that will enable Matsushita to utilize Microsoft Windows CE in future products.

Sony cultivates special car audio family to gain youth market

Sony Corp will begin an extensive promotional campaign in the US aimed at capturing lost market share in the automobile audio equipment sector. The campaign, which will begin in spring 2000, will include the cultivation of a powerful line of head units that are expected to appeal to the youth market. Sony's Xplod line of speakers and amplifiers, which proved to be popular with consumers born after 1976, will be expanded to include the head units.

With sound technologies, Yamaha cultivates home theater market

Yamaha Corp is offering a line of home theater-related products in the US that features the company's Digital Theater System and Dolby Digital AC-3 Surround technologies as well as its original sound field reproduction technologies.
