Utilities embrace direct load control
Article Abstract:
Load control is the management of the customers usage either by the customer or the utility, for purposes for economics and energy conservation. The systems include a central load controller, monitoring equipment, and communications equipment. Load control began as a technological perk, but it is being more widely used, although it's not yet required.

Strawman demonstrates Utilities Communications Architecture in action
Article Abstract:
Power System Engineering and Pierce-Pepin Electric Cooperative Utilities made the first field demonstration of the Utilities Communications Architecture (UCA). The test was a success and proved that UCA could provide real-time access to mapping/facilities management data.

Electronic meter carves a niche for itself
Article Abstract:
Despite some decided disadvantages (high cost and short life), solid-state meters are finding usage in certain applications. Utilities are in need of multifunction meters. Currently there are 3 kinds of meters: solid-state, hybrid, and solid-state support devices.
