Varieties of digital camcorders multiply as makers add functions
Article Abstract:
Technologies related to digital camcorders have advanced significantly since the first digital camcorder format appeared in 1995. Called the MiniDV system, that format was tailored for home-use camcorders. In an effort to promote compostie products and to make the most of the digital format, manufacturers of digital camcorder have been proposing various applications involving the digital camcorder and the Internet. A survey has found that camcorder users are seeking models that have othe advanced features related to creating video files, transmitting images by e-mail and playing back music.

Sharp Corp expects the worldwide camcorder market to grow gradually, rising 5% in FY2001 to 12.7 million units. The company predicts that digital camcorder sales in the US alone will increase 10% in 2001. Seeing the trend toward digital products, Sharp focuses on digital models in its product development. Since 2000, the company has brought out three new lines of digital camcorders.
