LeTel VP of sales and marketing, Art Westburg, believes the telephone business could be very strong in 1984. Low end one- piece and cordless telephones are trouble areas. The growth area will be in quality telephones priced twenty-five dollars and up. Advertising and displays are very important. There will be a shakeout amongst suppliers and retail distribution patterns will change.

Toy Firms Decide to Play in Booming Phone Field
Article Abstract:
Some toy manufacturers are entering the decorator telephone market which accounts for ten percent of consumer telephone sales. Coleco has introduced four phones; Tyco Industries has introduced four; and Tristar International has a line based on Pink Panther, Marilyn Monroe and Rolling Stone characters. Manufacturers are using licensed characters and promotional pricing.
