A turbine-blade balancing problem
Article Abstract:
A balancing problem is considered in the case of the steam-turbine blade manufacturing industry. The turbine blade balancing problem is formulated into a mixed-integer programming problem, which is shown to be NP-hard. Several heuristics such as the goal chasing heuristic, peer heuristic and interchange heuristic are developed to find a solution that will make the balancing job easy and simple. Computational results reveal that the peer interchange heuristic has the best performance among all heuristic methods.

The use of feedforward neural networks for machine vision calibration
Article Abstract:
The nonlinear optimization of machine vision calibration is achieved using a neural network approach. The proposed algorithm eliminates the need for a mathematical model or prior knowledge about the setup or calibration variables. Results of two robotics arm experiments demonstrate the effectiveness of feedforward neural networks in providing accurate machine vision calibration. The neural network generated the converted points that allowed the robotics arm to pick up the parts located by machine vision.
