A simulation-based method to aid the improvement of manufacturing flexibility
Article Abstract:
A variant of the just-in-time (JIT) system is used for producing shorter lead times and greater flexibility in the production process. Conventional JIT systems function by introducing continuous small improvements through the exposure of constraints and their elimination. However, there is a risk of production disruption. The variation uses an approach designed to achieve lead time reduction without this risk. A simulation model is used to evaluate the performance of the system in terms of batch size determination.

A simulation study of bottleneck scheduling
Article Abstract:
Three methods for inventory control, material requirements planning, just-in-time and optimized production technology, are used in simulations for analyzing bottleneck scheduling. These approaches are compared with each other to find the most effective approach for the problem. The results show that all three methods work well in solving bottleneck scheduling problems and they even complement each other. Integration of all three approaches into a collective process will significantly increase efficiency.

Real-time operational control of an FMS with full routing flexibility
Article Abstract:
The issue of flexibility in flexible manufacturing systems (FMS) when flexible process plans were available was studied. Simulation was used to investigate the performance of operational control policies in an experimental FMS with full routing flexibility. The results showed that the best-performing policy is that in which the flow was not hampered by a single machine, supplemented by distance-related routing control objectives.
