An adaptive dispatching algorithm for automated guided vehicles based on an evolutionary process
Article Abstract:
A novel dispatching approach based on an evolutionary process for the efficient operation of automated guided vehicles is proposed. The algorithm features an adaptive control capability that allows the automated guided vehicles to respond to changes of the system environment and makes use of the information of work-in-process in buffers and travel times of the vehicles. Simulation results and comparison with other dispatching rules demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed algorithm.

Performance-based control for the machining process and its application
Article Abstract:
A performance-based control approach for machining is introduced, and its application in two different manufacturing environments is described. The precision of a keyway milling machine driven by uncontrollable alternating current motors is positioned using a self-learning predictive control model. In addition, a self-learning fuzzy control algorithm is proposed for a two-inch numerical control dividing head used in machine shop conditions.

The impact of a constraint buffer in a flow shop
Article Abstract:
Three simulation models have been created to imitate three manufacturing set ups: a materials requirements planning (MRP) situation, a drum-buffer-rope method (DBR) stemming from a theory of constraints setup (TOC) and a situation using both MRP and DBR. Results indicate that machine use and the amount of materials placed through the production process differed substantially in the MRP set up as against the DBR set up.
