Article Abstract:
The 2000 Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) Medals will be awarded at the Honors Ceremony on Jun 24, at the Hotel Vancouver in Vancouver, B.C., Canada. The medals will go to engineers, educators and corporate executives who have made outstanding contributions to the industry and/or to society. Recipients include: Vladimir Alexandovich Kotelnikov, receiving the Alexander Graham Bell Medal; Jun-Ichi Nishizawa, the IEEE Edison Medal; James H. Mulligan, Jr., the Education Medal; Cyril G. Veinott, the IEEE Medal for Engineering Excellence; Robert W. Galvin, the IEEE Founders Medal; Solomon Wolf Golomb, the IEEE Richard W. Hamming Medal; Arthur A. Oliner, the IEEE Henrich Hertz Medal; James F. Kaiser, the IEEE Jack S. Kilby Signal Processing Medal; Joachim Holtz, the IEEE Lamme Medal; Charles A. Eldon, the IEEE Haraden Pratt Award; J. David Irwin, the IEEE Richard M. Emberson Award; Norio Ohga, an IEEE Honorary Membership; and David A. Patterson and John L. Hennessey, who jointly will accept the John von Neumann Medal.

Anticipating the future: Intel's Minerva Yeung looks at multimedia technology today for solving the problems of tomorrow.
Article Abstract:
Minerva Yeung, born in Hong Kong, is now an electrical engineer at Intel Corp's Microprocessor Research Labs (MRL) in Santa Clara, CA, where she researches advanced multimedia technology. Although the number of women who enter electrical engineering remains very low, Yeung regarded the field as an obvious choice because of her interests and competitive nature. Yeung and her team are studying digital watermarking, streaming media, and peer-to-peer computing.
