Applying distributive justice to planning
Article Abstract:
A detailed structure plan produced by planners in Bedfordshire, England, is the county's first step towards achieving sustainable development. The publication of the Bedfordshire Structure Plan 2011 Deposit Draft illustrates that sustainable development can only be attained effectively if policies, such as transport, waste recycling, transport and other environmental concerns, are taken into account. The plan, which proposes that 45,000 new houses should be built in the county by 2011, emphasises the ongoing need for energy efficiency.

Partnerships get to take a curtain call: the NHTPC may have pulled off something of a coup in launching Britain's first-ever Partnership Awards
Article Abstract:
The National Housing and Town Planning Council has launched the first Partnership Awards in the UK, with the Isledon Village Project in north London, the overall winner. The way the partnership approach can strengthen local initiatives and developments was considered at the NHTPC conference in Harrogate. The most effective partnerships are considered to be those that combine physical and economic development. Partnership schemes should be strategy led rather than opportunistic and resource driven.
