Crown Cork & Seal cuts scrap
Article Abstract:
Philadelphia, PA-based Crown Cork and Seal Company Inc., which manufactures aluminum containers for various industries, began using a statistic-process-control (SPC) system in 1990 as part of its drive toward total quality management. However, the need for a more efficient system to track a high volume of data for different processes forced the company to shift to an automatic SPC system. Conversion to an SPC system has allowed the company to reduce SPC charting time by one hour and provided all employees access to SPC information.

AlliedSignal streamlines operations with SPC
Article Abstract:
AlliedSignal Aerospatiale Canada Inc. aimed for a paperless environment when it purchased Factorynet to build a database for its in-process-checking (IPC) data. AlliedSignal believed that an automated statistical-process- control (SPC) system was needed in determining the root cause of problems and let engineering trace whatever corrective action is necessary. Since it was using manual procedure, AlliedSignal's IPC system was working slowly. With the integration of the SPC system, work was streamlined and facilitated.
