Designing a web site requires strict attention to details to avoid intellectual property lawsuits. Keep a website passive in locations where defending a lawsuit would be inconvenient. State and federal laws should be consulted at regular intervals. Subscribing to a 'webmaster,' will mean that entity assumes responsibility for patent rights.

Description of a recent court case for the definition of an inventor as well as co inventor is given. A person with a major contribution to an invention can fail to be considered as an inventor due to the scope of the patent's claim and the stage at which the patent was applied.
