Participants at the yearly technology management meeting of The Conference Board came up with 50 examples of universal truths or axioms on effective technology management for maximum business value. Seven of these axioms, accompanied by illustrations, are provided. These include 'technology is an asset, not an expense,' 'distance distorts innovation,' technology transfer is a contact sport,' and 'companies in trouble have great strategies.'

Project teams is an approach favored by industrial research managers for optimizing time and effort in product research. Members of a team should be cross-functional. In that way, all interested parties are involved in technology development at conception, minimizing subsequent adjustments. Communicating frequently, contracting with suppliers and evaluating progress shortens the developmental cycle of a product.
