Blast from the past wins a new fan
Article Abstract:
Split-Cycle Technology has developed a fan architecture which harnesses the power of the Coanda Effect. This effect is a principle concerning air movement which was first identified in 1910. The technology, which makes use of small eddy currents to make a powerful airstream, has advantages including higher efficiency, stall-free working, and pressure gain without the use of stator blades and diffusers. Applications for the technology include helicopter rotors, vacuum cleaners and cooling fans.

Perforations pump up the power
Article Abstract:
A new exhaust architecture, called PMMC (perforated muffler manifold catalyst), may enable the automobile industry to save on costs, and it reduces the weight of the vehicle, noise levels, brake torque and pollution emission levels. PMMC reduces emissions by 15% because the pipes to the catalyst have been enlarged. The catalyst is also nearer to the manifold. The engine performance can be improved by 5% because the pressure inside the pipes has been lowered by 30%.
