Consolidating China's CPI
Article Abstract:
China plans to consolidate its chemical process industries (CPI) to make them globally competitive. The State Petrochemical Industry Bureau, formerly Ministry of Chemical Industry, wants to transform struggling state-owned enterprises into sogohosha, or large conglomerates that can compete in a global marketplace. It intends to focus its energy on about 55 large conglomerates. Small and medium-sized enterprises will be merged, sold or left to fend for themselves if they cannot be turned around.
