Creating a diamond in the rough
Article Abstract:
Ultra-hard diamond film can be layed down onto metal using intermediate layers of metal and ceramic. Multiple layer coating (MLC) methods have been developed using diamond-like carbon deposited from vapour to achieve a Vickers hardness of between 6000 and 7000. Three MLC methods are described. A slide section containing multiple pairs of titanium/diamond-like carbon with titanium carbide and chromium nitride/diamond-like carbon is shown.
