Digital Image Generation for a Tank Gunnery Simulator
Article Abstract:
A Comtal Vision One-20 was selected for incorporation into a Singer-Link tank gunnery simulator. The Vision One-20 is an image processor made by Comtal Corporation. Comtal was founded by two engineers who developed image-display systems from primitive, host-dependent displays to stand-alone, interactive systems. In the gunnery simulation system, the Comtal uses 8-bit words to define each pixel. Three of those bits control pixel screen priority, allowing targets displayed to be moved behind obstacles. Because the Comtal is a digital system it takes up less room and is more flexible in the displays it can generate. An example of a Comtal image is presented.
