Dynamic control of a cellular-line production system under variations in the product mix

Article Abstract:

A novel approach for designing and controlling cellular-line manufacturing systems is proposed, with the aim of achieving a significant reduction in production lead times for large-scale production shops having reentrant product flows. The proposed cellular-line system is composed of several flow shops which are individual groups of different facilities, while production lots circulate from one shop to another for processing. Numerical results illustrate the effectiveness of the methodology.

Conventional data envelopment analysis (DEA) and cross-efficiency methods for empirical analysis of data from the International Institute for Applied Systems Analysis' FMS world data bank was utilized. The outcomes revealed that less intricate systems demonstrated to be more capable systems.
