Economic and strategic justification of AMT inferences from industrial practices
Article Abstract:
A survey conducted among 584 plants in the U.S. shows that manufacturing firms that employed hybrid justification strategies (combination of economic and strategic justification) were able to achieve greater success from their AMT(advanced manufacturing technology) projects. Success is also achieved regardless of preference for either economic or strategic justification approaches. Results also show that a majority of the surveyed plants do not use the more sophisticated justification techniques due to their complexity.

Decision making changes are seen in the division of the whole process into several steps. This ensures better conditions for large series production. The increase in productivity depends on the standardization of processes.

Information inaccuracy: implications for economic production scheduling
Article Abstract:
Net present value (NPV) as a means of improving financial performance in production scheduling is analyzed. NPV provides a more common performance language to all organizational levels and focuses on the economic value of production and operations. NPV requires a huge amount of economic information. The study demonstrates that such information can be erroneous before the application of the NPV decision-making tool results in considerable economic losses.
