Electric performance
Article Abstract:
The Energy Efficiency in Motor Driven Systems Conference aims to reinforce the message on energy efficient designs and applications and will show engineers that motor systems can be more efficient. Hugh Falkner of the Energy Efficiency Best Practice Programme says that the most significant development is the introduction of three efficiency classifications for motors, agreed by Cemep, Europe's trade association for motor manufacturers.

Reach for the skies
Article Abstract:
Farnborough-Aircraft.com, an engineering venture founded by entrepreneur Richard Noble, is developing a high-performance light business aircraft, dubbed the F1. The design team is using computational fluid dynamics to help improve aerofoil design, giving minimum drag and maximum lift. Crucial to the F1's performance is its ability to climb rapidly after take-off. It is hoped that manufacturing will begin in 2004.
