Article Abstract:
Ford Motor Co. of Dearborn, MI, has an extensive intranet which has become its worldwide central data repository. Through the council, Ford now uses the same quality metrics and measurements to simplify comparisons among product lines, divisions and countries. The firm has also tied both executive and middle-management compensation and bonuses to specific quality metrics. The firm's intranet receives up-to-date information on warranty service repairs, defects and feedback from customers while its external Web site receives 45 million visits per months.
