Fuzzy bundles provide focused pictures: defence industry research has resulted in lower cost underwater vision systems with real potential in hazardous areas and manufacturing
Article Abstract:
A system has been developed to gather and process two-dimensional images, but it can also operate linearly, and applications include the inspection of products on a conveyor belt. The system is based on incoherent optical fibre bundles and could be cost effective for nuclear and other EMC environments. It was developed following research by the Defence Research Agency (DRA), into reducing costs of optical fibre based underwater vision systems.

Plant systems spell triumph or disaster
Article Abstract:
Engineers planning to add Supervisory Control Data Acquisition (SCADA) systems to their processing machinery should begin by undertaking aa cost-benefit analysis and then determine the tasks the system will perform. A consultant can provide help in choosing the system that is best suited to the application. Software reliability is an important consideration.
