Gas dosing system sets new standards
Article Abstract:
The new selective catalytic reduction (SCR) system, called Sigma injects gaseous ammonia, continuously produced on board from a standard urea solution, rather than injecting an atomized liquid into the exhaust. The new version is being developed for the truck market but the technology can be readily scaled down for SUVs and heavy, or high powered, diesel passenger cars, sectors for which SCR is identified as inevitable if proposed Euro 5 NOx levels are met over the whole life of such vehicles.

Quality through leaner design
Article Abstract:
Six Sigma is a technique that started life in manufacturing but which could also help firms design and develop products better and faster. Mike Campden, Design for Six Sigma programme leader at engineering training firm Smallpiece Enterprises feels that there is a rapidly growing interest in Design for Six Sigma, as more manufacturers recognize that the higher levels of manufacturing improvements could be achieved by Six Sigma design.

Thyristor controller reduces harmonics
Article Abstract:
A unique power control technology for voltage, current or power regulation that reduces harmonics and provides a smoother process is reported. Reo's Reotron MEW 700/50 2S' controller operates on the phase angle principle but, unlike traditional systems, reduces harmonics and can be used for voltage, current or power regulation.
