Glass chips perform chemical processes
Article Abstract:
Chemical analysis and fine chemical processing work is likely to be made much simpler and quicker through the use of technology based on glass chips. Micromachining chemical analysis will allow detailed scans to be undertaken in a matter of seconds, and process control work will therefore be greatly speeded up. A key application will be DNA sequencing, with a person's identity being established in only a few seconds.

Plastic crystals glow longer: lighting and displays of the future may well use light emitting plastics instead of conventional lamps and diodes
Article Abstract:
New light emitting polymers are in early stages of development but may be able to replace silicon carbide and galliium nitride for blue LEDs, at a lower cost. They could also be produced in large areas and in different colours. They are based on conducting crystalline polymers of completely different chemical composition to other light emitting polymers.
