Hospital taps geothermal technology
Article Abstract:
KJWW Engineering Consultants, based in Rock Island, IL, is using geothermal technology to condition two existing structures and three buildings under construction on the 82-acre medical campus of the Great River Medical Center in West Burlington, IA. A pair of horsepower pumps is tapped by the engineering firm to move heat energy from the ground under the lake through plastic piping into the buildings. The pumps draw heat from the facilities and transfer it to the earth to cool the buildings.

Giants go global, says survey
Article Abstract:
Over 50 percent of leading US engineering companies are going global, according to the Consulting-Specifying Engineer's annual Giants survey. The polling of more than 500 MEP engineering firms nationwide showed that new construction is the main focus of American engineering experts abroad. This is partly due to the highly developed infrastructure in the US compared to that of developing countries.
