Technology 1993: annual review
Article Abstract:
Industry trends to keep an eye on in 1993 include wireless personal communications services, use of lasers in medical electronics for sculpting nearsighted eyes, and commercialization of high-speed digital networks. The mainframe computer is affected adversely by technological progress, the trend toward smaller systems, workstation clusters and an economic recession. The IEEE Technical Activities Board's New Technology Directions Committee now offers the annual Portfolio of Emerging Technologies that is published for technical societies, standards communities and engineers. In 1992 technical innovations and regulatory actions helped formulate new consumer electronic products. A broad regulatory framework has been outlined by the US Federal Communications Commission regarding the selection of a high definition television standard.

Why remote sensing is an information technology
Article Abstract:
Processing of data gathered by remote sensing involves digital technology that is highly time-consuming. The increased amount of data and computer power needed to process images forces remote-sensing data to be obtained in a raw form, in which the geometric errors persist.
