Inkjets rule supreme
Article Abstract:
Inkjet colour printers and plotters dominate a large part of the CAD market. However the higher end of the CAD market and some special niche applications require maximum output rates. Hewlett-Packard's inkjet plotters have been renamed 'printers' and latest products include the DesignJet 750C Plus. Calcomp's new TechJet 720C plotter is aimed at those who usually print monochrome, but occasional require colour printing. The low cost end of the market is entirely dominated by low cost inkjets, as long as large plots are not required.

More sensors reveal the physical world
Article Abstract:
An increasingly wide range of sensor technologies will be available to engineers. Sensor manufacturer Rechner sells a capacitative level sensor which uses compensatory electronics in constant product detection. It can work in temperatures of up to 150 degrees centigrade and is supplied with a flexible probe/amplifier. It can be used in various applications such as food and plastics processing.

Capabilities expand to meet user needs
Article Abstract:
Finite element analysis techniques are continuously being refined to provide increased capabilities and ease of use. The engineering technique breaks down a large component into several smaller connecting bricks, but requires a large amount of computing power to yield significant results. An overview of developments in finite element analysis is presented.
