Managing and reducing total cycle time: models and analysis
Article Abstract:
Cycle time management and reduction (CTM) is aimed at minimizing total manufacturing cycle time to improve efficiency and reduce costs. Three CTM models are developed, namely, a stochastic model, Markovian chain model and queueing model. These models identify the activities which account for the largest cycle times so they can be targeted for reduction. The models can also be modified to fit various manufacturing environments.

An approximate method for calculating the mean sojourn time of K-station production lines with no intermediate buffers
Article Abstract:
A proposed approximation model, which is a derivative of the holding time model, measures the mean time delays of K-station production lines. The K-station lines being measured have exponential service times, blocking after service and no intermediate buffers between stations. The model also exhibits 2-5% acceptable error levels of mean sojourn time of production lines with 2-6 stations, and about 6% error for 7-20 stations.
