Law could require the federal sector to use ISO 14000
Article Abstract:
An intellectual property/technical standards law ushered in by the Clinton administration may pave the way for increased usage of the ISO 14000 environmental management system standards by federal government agencies. Application of this rule to government procurement may make purchases of even well-defined and commercially available products difficult, expensive, and time-consuming. The law makes it imperative for federal government agencies to adopt technical standards of standards-writing bodies such as the ASQC. This may lead to increased federal employee participation in these bodies.

What is the Registrar Accreditation Board?
Article Abstract:
The Registrar Accreditation Board (RAB) monitors the quality and adherence to requirements of third party certifiers of quality systems. It was created as an affiliate of the American Society for Quality Control in 1989 in response to the increasing international subscription to the ISO 9000 standards. With the standards' rising use, it became important to ensure registrar credibility. The RAB accredits the registrars who are responsible for registering companies and suppliers according to the proper ISO 9000 standards. The RAB's accreditation process is detailed.

What benchmarking books don't tell you
Article Abstract:
Successful benchmarking is achievable with five tips based on the experiences at the AT & T Global Business Communications Systems. The process should be quickly completed within a realistic framework as the team members may move from the assignment, or a new management may not want the work done. The critical success factors, derived from a company's survival parameters, need to be integrated. The fallacy of best-in-class companies for benchmarking should be avoided. Proper management of changes during benchmarking needs to be employed.
