Harrower calls for culture change to protect contracting
Article Abstract:
At a speech given in London on 13 Feb, 1996, John Harrower of the Electrical Contractors' Association called for changes to be made both inside and outside the industry to ensure that it has a healthy future. In recent years the construction industry has faced enormous economic and competitive pressures, particularly specialist contractors who depend on motivated and well-trained employees to further their common goals. The electrical contractor industry must examine whether traditional apprenticeships will meet the growing technological needs of the future.

No division in Cyprus
Article Abstract:
A positive approach to the future of electrical contracting in the UK was the response to an Electrical Contractors Association conference held in Cyprus during June 1999. Speakers at the conference urged the 250 delegates to introduce a more open approach when dealing with others within the industry. Innovative technology should be embraced by the industry otherwise the UK would fall behind the rest of the western world, according to one speaker.
