Laws that govern the rules of the open road
Article Abstract:
The Criminal Justice and Public Order Act 1994 gives power to move unauthorised encampments, and under S77 councils can now seek the removal of vehicle and caravans parked on the highway, or on any land without the owner's consent. Local planning authorities will have to ensure that there is adequate gypsy site provision although they have no duty to provide gypsy sites. Those trespassing on private or unoccupied land can be evicted and councils can take action under S77 and 78.

Planning law: words and meaning
Article Abstract:
The words used in planning permission documents in the UK are important as is shown by one case involving a gasoline station site in Slough, England. The local authority owned the site and granted itself permission for new buildings before selling the site. The permission document did not stipulate a size limit to floorspace but the local authority's planning application had mentioned such a limit. Planning procedures must be set down in line with an order of 1995.

Policy into practice: revised PPG6 urges adoption of policies to sustain and enhance the viability of town centres
Article Abstract:
Councils can achieve sustainable and viable town centres by making town centre sites available for mixed retail and housing developments via the development plan system. They can also ease traffic congestion and improve public transport, or they can restrict any development which might undermine town centre viability.
