Save pipes from bursting with a compensator
Article Abstract:
Expansion compensators are small safety device instruments that essentially function as add-on pressure vessels and provide an extra margin of safety to pressure vessels and rigid piping systems. Properly sized and correctly installed compensators, which come in different shapes sizes and designs, give elasticity to otherwise rigid piping systems because they absorb the thermal expansion of a liquid. Suggested sizing rules will help engineers in the chemical process industries select the appropriate compensator to use.

Packing towers: new structured packings reduce flooding and increase capacity 20 to 30%
Article Abstract:
Plant operators in the chemical process industries can avail of an unprecedented variety of options in the late 1990s in retrofitting or constructing separations columns. A broad selection of traditional as well as state-of-the art, highly efficient sieve trays and structured packings are being marketed by different manufacturers. Some of the newest trays are said to boost capacities by 30%-50% or even more, while reducing flooding.
