Article Abstract:

Technological advances and demands on automotive suppliers to comply with international quality standards have enhanced the science of leak detection in metal parts and sub-assemblies in the late 1990s. Leak-detection systems to date have the capacity to accurately identify leaks of a few cc/min at existing plant production speeds and test conditions and pass/fail rates for statistical process control and traceability purposes.

Testing to the ASTM standards is one method of testing plastics to find out if plastic materials come up to specifications of ASTM standards. Performances of materials, however, are not measured. The melt index test is commonly used for quality tests and uses the extrusion plastometer to perform such tests.

Angular gage blocks and the vernier bevel protractor are two instruments which evaluate and measure angles and are briefly described. The table of units for physical quantities which was defined in the 11th General Conference on Weights and Measures is also presented.
